Germ Circus,
What a great way to wrap up the season - going out with a win at PADA Mosh.
Here is a summary of our weekend:
Saturday was cold and windy all day long and we played on some pretty crappy
fields. The bonus was that hitting the ground did not hurt at all - lots of
mud to go around! We warmed up by the middle of the second game and started
to play like we meant it. By the end of the second game, our heads were in it
and we were making less mental mistakes. We lost this game 6-15. Our third game
against the UDel alumni was the best of the day. We played them tough and had
a chance to beat them - but we just couldn't pull it off and lost 9-15. Then
came our fourth game - on a very windy and slanted field. I think we played
strong here against a very good team, but everyone was freezing at this point
and that made it hard to stay focused. We lost 5-15.
To put some perspective on the teams we played Saturday - the first two teams
we played were in finals at Mosh. And the team that we played at the end of
the day on Saturday lost in the semi-finals. So 3 of our 4 games were played
against the top 4 teams who went to Mosh this year. Pretty crazy odds that we'd
get that sort of a match up, but we did!
After the games, we hung out for beer and pizza for a bit and then some went
home to sleep and for the rest, Saturday night was hot tub and sauna night -
thanks to Tina! Kenne brought the kegs over from Mosh and we hung out, relaxed
and turned into giant prunes! Ahhhhhhh.....
Sunday turned out to be better than Saturday. The wind died down and we were
on the only nice fields. We were missing a few of our crew from Saturday, but
we still had plenty of numbers. Our first game got everyone moving and we played
hard but lost 9-15 to a more experienced team. This team - Puppet Regime - then
beat Jiggedy Flow by the same score.
Our final game on Sunday was great! We came out strong and played smart. We
were up 5-1 at one point and took half 8-4. Our hustle and desire made us go
to the disc better than the other team. We did let the other team climb back
in the game in the middle of the second half because we started making mental
mistakes - poor choices on throwing, not dumping and defense. Goose took a critical
time out and Germ Circus regrouped and focused on making smart plays. We kept
the disc moving with lots of swing passes which opened up everything down field
We also played a great zone D that didn't give them many options. Once we did
this, there was no looking back and we kicked butt for the rest of the second
half and took the game 15-9.
Great weekend Germs!
