6-2 at sectionals and the 5th seed from our section on the way to Regionals! Awesome weekend and awesome playing by all of Germ Circus.
Saturday
The biggest factor Saturday was the weather. The consensus when we showed up was "Let's postpone this damn thing and go get some pancakes." Unfortuantely our syrup needs took a backseat to those teams that drove many hours to get here. "It will let up by noon and be nice after that" was one thing I heard in the morning. HA. It rained all day and just to help out, it was also cold and windy. I don't think that I've ever played in such lousy weather.
Game 1: Germs vs Donkey Bomb. 3 to 11
Lots of punt & zone. DB was more effective than we were with that. Evan had an awesome London Fog jacket that kept him dry and debonair all day.
Game 2: Germs vs Love Bomb. 11 to 0
The only shut out of the weekend! Love Bomb had some issues and we didn't play
down to their level. Our Z forced a lot of turnovers and easy scoring opportunities.
Game 3: Germs vs Mixed Drinkers. 11 to 8
Perhaps this was our best game of the weekend. We knew we had to win this game to have a shot a Regionals and so we took it to them.
Game 4: Germs vs Royal w Cheese. 2 to 11
Our worst game of the weekend, played on a field that was approximately 60% mud bog. We came into the game thinking about how fast we could lose and go home. We did exactly that. After playing this team tough two weekends before, we just shut down and did not play well at all.
Sunday
What a difference a day makes! The weather almost perfect for playing ultimate - cool and sunny but with quite a bit of wind early in the day. Talk about a much happier group of Germs!
Game 1: Germs vs Balance of Power. 11 to 8
The game was not as close as the score would indicate. We let BOP back in to the game during the start of the second half. To our credit, we clamped down and took it to the win.
Game 2: Germs vs Pan Fried Funk. 11 to 2
Up wind, down wind field against a spirited college team. We took the first point upwind and then slapped a tough zone on them going both directions. We were patient and worked the disc and it showed.
Game 3: Germs vs Adult Flicks. 11 to 2
Up wind, down wind field again. Our zone D was clicking at this point and we just hammered them for the entire game.
Game 4: Germs vs Your Mom. 12 to 10
Normally we love Your Mom as they are a fun spirited team. However this game was very different. Lots of calls, some of them questionable. My guess is because they had lost some close games and were knocked out of Regionals already (I think).
We took 2 quick points and then Your Mom ran a ho stack and scored on 2 long shots to the end zone. We threw a zone, but the wind died down and Mom was patient, worked the disc and scored again. At that point we want back to person but focused on cutting off the line, which worked. We took the half 6-4 and came out and scored again. Mom got fired up and scored several in a row. We traded points and Mom scored to tie it at 10. The Circus dug deep and scored quickly. Then we played killer defense and punched it in for the win.
What a weekend!
